Choosing glue for wigs

Learn how to choose the right glues to make your tailored wig projects!

Easy

Some of these glues contain toxic products. Think about using a mask to use it!

What you need

  • *Water-based transparent glue(1)

Steps

  1. 1

    Transparent glue

The transparent glue is the glue that is used to strip your hair, make guts. It's safe, water-based. Once dry, you can reactivate or dissolve it with a water spray or a steam dewaterer. I use it personally to put my hair on my solid wigs once the base of the wick is stuck on the wig. I'm using it like a gel eventually.

    Hot glue

Hot glue and hair are absolutely not good cleaning! On the other hand, it is very useful to stick the watin on the net of the wig to create a wig base helmet. Some wigmakers use hot glue to create the entire base of their helmet wigs.

    Universal glue with solvent

Wear a mask to use this glue Universal glue is based on a chemical solvent that, once dry, will not reactivate, either bleach in contact with water (and then become transparent again by drying). It is more water resistant than conventional transparent glue. Once dry, it is also more rigid so stronger. It exists in 2 textures: liquid and gel according to your preferences. I use it to stick the base of the wicks on the wigs or to create tiny spiders around an iron wire. (Here example wig of Rainbow Dash)

    Universal glue without solvent

It is a non-toxic version of the previous glue, but it is not resistant to water. It is therefore similar to the classic transparent glue but much more liquid! I find that it hangs the material less well and takes more time to dry, so I do not use it, but some wigmaker swear only by it! If you are disturbed by the thick texture of the Cleopatre, I invite you to turn to the classic UHU without solvent!

    Neoprene glue

Wear a mask to use this glue Neoprene glue is a contact glue. To use it you have to apply glue on both surfaces to glue, wait until it drys and then put both surfaces in contact. It's a very chemical glue so some use to stick the watin on the wig cap to create their helmet base. But I ask you, don't do that! It's a glue way too chemical to be so close to your scalp! You risk irritation, redness, itching, allergic reaction or hair loss. So this glue's at BANNIR!

    Cyanoacrylate glue

Wear a mask to use this glue Cyanoacrylate or "glue" glue is a very fast and strong grip glue. It leaves white residues after drying and an error of use is irretrapable. I strongly advise against it except to fix magnets inside the cap. Please don't make this glue come in contact with hair
