    Why come back

Ironing in sewing is often avoided but it is essential! As a first step, the fabric (previously washed, see the notion on the washing of fabrics) must be ironed as the pattern tracing must be done on a smooth surface. Indeed, the more the fabric will be twisted and the less clean the final garment/accessory. It will be distorted and in case we want something specific it is the disaster in addition to not being beautiful. Moreover, it greatly facilitates the sewing and alignment of the pieces between them. In fact, thought of "opening your sewing to iron, it makes a great added value to the final work! Finally, the clothing/accessories once finished will only look better and the finishes will be more satisfactory.

    Careful work

There are several types of iron. There are classics that are found in almost every home and that are very easily found in store or online. Generally, there is always someone to offer you one. Then we have more specific irons, especially mini irons that allow us to work more meticulously the sewing finishes. Found for about 30€, they are ergonomic and practical.

    Large budget

For large budgets, there are steam plants. Super efficient and fast, the power plants allow to put everything down and no fold resists them! On the other hand it is very expensive, takes a lot of space and not very practical for small finishes.

    Little space

You do sewing, in a room, a small living room or in a student apartment? An ironing board is super expensive and it takes room? No worries, there are mini boards found in large areas that cost €20/30 (see less used). They easily fit into a wardrobe because they often have a hook like a hanger and simply unfold it on a table or desk. Fast efficient but not convenient for large fabrics.

    Special boards

You're experienced, and you have a budget and room? Are you tired of sleeves or pants legs because ironing keeps the most on the sides? Don't worry! There are specific ironing tables for that!

    Alternatives

You really don't have a place or you don't want to go back? There is a nicer alternative. It's about steamer. It is a device with or wireless, which takes up little space and can be found for 25/30€ (see more for quality). It works by spraying water vapor and it irons very well a cloth or garment placed vertically. Plus, big advantage, it can also be used for wig stylization! (There are tutos on the networks)

    Not ironable

Be careful! Not all fabrics are ironable! Some are very sensitive to heat and can melt see burn! Usually when you buy a garment or fabric, it is marked on the label if it is possible or not to iron. If you don't know, test on a small corner before you start, you will immediately realize the problem. You also have to think about changing the temperature according to the material you have in order not to absorb it. And sometimes it is possible to iron a complicated fabric only with what is called a pattibouille. The name is very ugly but it is a specific cloth (or cloth of a towel type) humidified that is applied over the ironing cloth so as not to burn it.

    Distilled water

The water you put in your iron is also super important! You'll tell me... "But... water is water, don't you care?" Well, NO! In an iron one puts distilled water (or osmosis)! What's the difference with tap water? Distilled water has had the right to a specific treatment that removes the minerals present in the water, especially limestone. Limestone is super dangerous for the longevity of your steam device because it comes to plug the canals and grill the resistance of the device. You can easily find 5L cans for 2/3€ in trade. We don't drink distilled water! It's poison in the long term because the water will always seek to recover its minerals and there are plenty in your body except your body needs it! Other information, if your iron seems to work less well or if you have long used too much limestone water, treat it with white vinegar. It'll do him good.

    Bonus hair

I know that velvet is very hard to iron, but some people have tips on the internet to do it right and I've already seen tutos of people who manage to mark their velvet with shapes thanks to a pad put under the fabric they come to iron!
