What you need

  • *Hand laundry(1)
  • *Or classic laundry(1)
  • *Option: softening(1)
  • *Or classic soap(1)

Steps

  1. 1

    "Salty"

Many fabrics are filled with dyes, chemicals, bacteria, dust, mites and all other joyous things. That's the first reason you have to wash your fabric! The risks of allergic reaction or skin sensitization are super important and it is also true for clothing. Do not neglect your health especially for your hobby.

    Colours

Colours, as previously stated, are very present in the textile medium. Washing the fabric will remove the excesses and avoid staining your skin, distinguishing on the other tissues of your outfit at the first washing, see in case of a convention accident (a bottle of water that falls so quickly arrived...). .

    Unwashable

I want to add many Cosplay, especially those with foam elements, painted, ect can NOT be washed... And yes, we cosplayers have their little secrets... That's also why washing your fabric is important... (Tip's: to disinfect and remove the odours of this kind of clothes not washable by machine or hand, there is the technique of water+ vodka in a sprayer!)

    Did it narrow?

Yes! Some fabrics shrink after first washing! This is one of the other reasons to wash your fabric BEFORE any other sewing step! It will avoid cuts that have become ugly see outfits impossible to put on because too small...

    Iron

The iron is your friend! But be careful! Maybe he's stupid. Crossing the front fabric of the elbow is a great idea! It allows to have a nice flat fabric and much simpler to prepare before sewing and to be very precise than when the fabric is all twisted and gondola. Sometimes some fabrics do not support the hot iron... (A thought to these people who started to iron in the middle of the fabric...) And yes, the fabrics can melt to see a change of color when the iron comes into contact. Do a small cloth corner test before actually starting. See using the technique of patouille.

    Washing

You have two options: 1- washing machine. Good technique, fast and reliable, but be careful to wash separately from the rest or with similar colors! Don't forget that sometimes it can turn off in unlikely colors. 2- wash by hand. Long and tedious but very effective and avoids a delicate fabric. Often instructions are noted behind the handwash bottle. But can be made with classic soap. .

    In summary

I repeated it a lot, but it's important to wash your fabric well before sewing. So now that you have the keys in hand, good sewing!
